(Almost The Same) Newborn Hat & Mitten Set- Free Pattern

After making the Newborn Hat & Mitten Set using straight needles, worked flat and then seamed, I remembered how much I don’t really like seaming and sewing, so I decided to make the same set again, but worked in the round (hence the name, Almost The Same). There aren’t many differences between the two patterns. Aside from using dpn’s for this version, the other major difference is that you will K the K stitches and P the P stitches to create the ribbing (opposite of the flat version), and then K every round to create the st st rather than K a row and P a row. Working this pattern in the round results in an ever-so-slightly tighter hat (but not enough, in my opinion, to affect the sizing- see the photo at the end of the pattern where I show the size difference).

Here is a photo of the size difference- The hat and mitten set on the left was worked in the round on the dpn’s, and the set on the right was worked flat using straight needles and then seamed.
